Give Your Fingers a Break - Let Your Mouse Do the Walking
Many people have mice with special back and forward buttons to make surfing the Internet easier. These buttons allow them to quickly go back and forth between previously viewed webpages by pressing buttons on the side of the mouse. I love this feature on my mouse because it saves time and makes life easier. If you’re mouse has these buttons, you can use them to simplify file or folder browsing when using Lightroom or Photoshop.
When you’re working in Lightroom use the back and forward buttons to move through the current files one-by-one. Click the back button to backup to the previous photo, and click the forward button to move forward to the next photo. This works in Grid and Loupe views. It even works in every module, (Library, Develop, Slidewhow, Print, and Web).
The buttons work a bit differently when you’re in Bridge. In fact, they work exactly the way they do when surfing the Internet. Instead of helping you to navigate through files, the buttons allow you to move through the folders you have viewed. Use the back button to go backward in time through the earlier folders you’ve viewed, and use the forward button to go forward in time to future folders you’ve viewed. It’s much faster and easier than going to the Folders panel and clicking on a folder.
Now that you know this, if you have back and forward buttons on your mouse, you can work more efficintly in Bridge or Lightroom. If you don’t have these buttons, you might want to think about upgrading to a mouse that has them. That way you can let your fingers do the walking without even moving the mouse.
