Portland Community Postcard Exchange with Pro Photo Supply

March 1 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm PST

$5
  • « iPhone Photography for Serious Photographers – Sponsored by Pro Photo Supply
  • A Portland Photo Walkabout with Mark Fitzgerald – Sponsored by Oregon Society of Artists »

Connect with others in the creative community! The need for meaningful exchanges within our community has intensified with the increasing popularity of and dependency on sharing our images in digital formats. A like on Instagram feels great but is fleeting. Postcards provide a significant way to share an image with a longer-lasting impression.

Postcards have long been a way for people to connect with family and friends to say a quick “Hi”, share their experiences while traveling, or give an update on life. Postcards capture moments in time and preserve them forever. They allow us to recapture the original memories we experienced when first delivered. They give the recipient of the postcard delight when discovering them, like a gem amidst the bills and junk mail. Artists and creators have recently revived the art of sending postcards as a meaningful way of connecting with their followers and community.

The Portland Community Postcard Exchange will consist of two parts: a webinar and a postcard exchange. In part one, local Adobe Lightroom expert Mark Fitzgerald and Veronica Cotter, Digital Fine Art paper enthusiast with Hahnemühle USA, will host a virtual webinar on Wednesday, Mar. 1st to explain best practices for printing your images and why paper makes the difference when choosing images to print. The webinar will be limited to those participating in the project.

In the second part, participants will be asked to submit a 300dpi jpeg with a corresponding aspect ratio for a 4×6 photo card. Paper choice is limited to Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Baryta and Photo Rag® Metallic. Pro Photo Supply will print three copies of these images on the Hahnemühle paper of the photographer’s choice. One copy will be displayed in the Pro Photo Supply Lab Gallery in April and then in the Store Gallery in May. This collection will also be included in an online gallery on Pro Photo Supply’s website. The second card will be mailed back to the photographer whose image graces the front of the card. And the third card will be mailed to another participant in the project.

Some Things to Consider When Choosing an Image for This Project:

  • Your image will be received by another participant in this project, so please only send images you’d want to share!
  • When choosing an image to send for this project, please keep in mind that the image should be acceptable for all audiences. This will be on display in Pro Photo Supply and on our website as well as be sent through the USPS system. Pick an image on the safer side!
  • Your image will be watermarked by Pro Photo Supply with your name prior to being printed. Please don’t send a watermarked file to us, we want to make sure that the size and placement make sense!

Pro Photo Supply will facilitate the printing and shipping of the postcards, while participants get to enjoy connecting with other creative community members!

Add to the story by tagging us @prophotosupply & @Hahnemühle_global on social media when you receive your postcards!
